- 3) The Dock reboots into the default settings, showing both running and non-running apps. GhostTile is useful if you wish to hide only certain apps, but want to see other running apps and standard Dock icons.
Toggle Dock is the easiest way to hide/show the dock icon for a running app.
Remember, you can not remove an app icon from the Dock that is currently running. You can tell an app is running as signified by the app status icons, which are little dots underneath the Dock icon; if you see a dot under the app icon, it’s running and active, if you do not, then it’s not open or active. I was not able to find a way to hide app icon programmatically, only way seems to be to set LSUIElement=1 in Info.plist, so the apps which need to switch on and off icon depending on user option may have to have two app which share all the code using symbolic links except the info.plist files which will be different for different mode app. You know the system tray icons right? The little menu that opens up when you click the little arrow in the taskbar? It shows all the currently running applications, but I was wondering if it was possible to have the icon not show in the menu even if the program is still running? (How to remove the app's icon in the system tray).
Toggle Dock allows you to remove certain applications from the Dock. Dock real estate can become precious, and some apps don’t make a whole lot of sense sitting there. With Toggle Dock, any OS X application can be made to show in the Dock or not. Time management app mac.

If you have applications that you don’t want to show up in either the Dock or menu bar, with 30 spare seconds and TextWrangler, you can control their visibility on an app-by-app basis.
There are two ways of doing this. The first method is more universal and fun, but slightly more manual. The second method is to use Dockless. Both methods *only* change whether an application’s Dock/Menu bar icon shows up. It does not affect how it can be run/opened, or it’s functionality.

The only reason I was initially hesitant about using Dockless is because it’s sometimes fickle in which applicactions it wants to work with. If it works for you, great! If not, try the other method.
